About this Event
About the walks...
Here, in a now-disused quarry, are caves in coral limestones that were formed more than 300 million years ago. Find out how the caves developed and visit one of them where you can see the fossilised bones of elephant, hippo, bison, lion, hyena and other animals that lived in the Dart Valley 100,000 years ago.
Browse our small, friendly museum where you can handle some of the bones. Find out about the bats that live in the caves and how we protect them.
Learn about the limekilns and be entertained and informed by our expert volunteer guides.
This is a great way for children and adults to spend a couple of hours, finding out about something quite special and unique right in the heart of Devon.
These are at 11 am and 2 pm every Wednesday and Thursday in August 2024. You should allow 2 hours.
For the day walks you will need normal outdoor walk clothing. We will supply helmets.
These are evening walks with varying start times (check when you book), to be held on 1st, 8th, 15th, 21st, 22nd, 28th and 29th August 2024.
For the bat walks you will need warm clothing. We will lend you a bat detector and a torch and help you to use these.
