This lecture reviews past environmental cooperation initiatives in the region and considers how a renewed peace process can produce sustainability gains and how it might be leveraged to ensure future ecological dividends for the region. Alon Tal is a professor and past chair at Tel Aviv University’s department of public policy. Between 2021 and 2022, Tal was a member of the Knesset, Israel’s parliament and served as chair of the subcommittee for Environmental and Climate Impacts on Health. He has held faculty appointments at Ben Gurion, Hebrew, Michigan State, Otago and Harvard Universities. But most importantly, Alon Tal is a UNC alumnus, class of 1980.
