About this Event

Save Our Wildlife Foundation Inc (SOWFI) have partnered with NSW Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service Inc (WIRES) to provide this fantastic online Wildlife Rescue 101 course. Following completion oxf the online component we would like you to come to a 3 hour practical application workshop and consider volunteering for SOWFI as a Wildlife Rescuer.

Aims and Objectives:

To introduce WHS risks involved in rescuing and transporting injured wildlife, assess injuries and contain the animal without inducing further stress or trauma.

To equip participants with the ability to confidently handle animals, identify injuries and disease as well as minimise stress.

To familiarise participants with the key aspects of species identification and develop the skills and techniques to accurately determine the species that has been rescued.

Assessments:

Each module will have a range of quizzes to which the answers can be found within the theory chapters. To be deemed competent in the online component of this course, all quizzes must be completed. A total score of above 75% must be achieved, multiple attempts for the quizzes will be available. A Completion Certificate will be emailed to you at the completion of this course.

Training Schedule:

Registration 9:15am.

Ideally, you will complete the online component prior to attending the 2 hour practical. Both components (online & practical) need to be completed before your application to volunteer with SOWFI as a Wildlife Rescuer.

An email with your log in details to the online assessment will be sent to you 3 days prior to practical workshop. (4 May 2022)

Requirements of a volunteer wildlife rescuer:

  • Over 18 years of age
  • Hold a current driver’s licence
  • Ability to commit time and petrol – rescuing animals and transporting them to either vets or carers
  • Rescue 101 is designed for volunteers that would like to help rescue wildlife casually, when they are available around their existing work and family activites. It will give volunteers maximum flexibility in terms of how often they get involved and how many rescues they can assist with.
