About this Event
Ever wondered what skills you really need to survive in the wild when things go south? For every piece of sound advice, there are ten “killer survival hacks” that could, in fact, get you killed. Here’s the truth: What works in the real world is actually pretty simple. Wilderness survival isn’t easy, but that doesn’t mean it has to be complicated. In this introductory course, lead instructor Alexander Bryant draws on a decade of experience in wilderness search & rescue to teach a hands-on, data-driven course based on real-life case studies of how ordinary people made it out alive – and you can, too.
Here’s what you’ll learn in this 1-day course:
Survival mindset and the secret of keeping a positive mental attitude
Situational awareness – how not to get lost to start with
Basic firecraft with manmade and natural materials
How to reliably start a fire regardless of conditions
Sourcing and purifying water no matter where you are
Wild edible plants you can find almost anywhere
Quick-action shelters to get you out of the elements in five minutes or less
Tips to get rescued that actually work
How to pick quality gear that’s worth its weight
How to find direction even if you don’t have a map or compass
And here’s what else you’ll get with this course:
A free copy of our “Survival Instructor’s Playbook” companion e-book
A hot, home-cooked meal to keep you going throughout the day
10% off all items in the SARCRAFT Outfitter Store
Unlimited email instructor support after class
No prior experience is required for this class, but we recommend bringing a daypack with some basic necessities (see our FAQs for what we suggest) and comfortable shoes for hiking. If you spend time in the outdoors, you need the skills to back it up. You don’t need fancy gear. You don’t need the latest cool hacks. You just need the essentials.
