About this Event
Wilderness First Aid (WFA) takes place at Earlham College May 13-14, 2025 and is taught by Wilderness Medical Associates International (WMA), a globally recognized wilderness medicine school. This is the best and most comprehensive course of its kind to offer relevant and realistic first-aid training for seasonal outdoor activities or short term wilderness endeavors and pursuits.
Wilderness First Aid is a two-day introduction to general medical concepts and basic life support skills. It is targeted to the outdoor enthusiast on day trips or short adventures. The course is taught by professional instructors with significant patient care and backcountry experience.
The expected target audience is seasonal outdoor staff and those involved in recreational wilderness trips. The course content meets the anticipated medical needs of those communities.

Patient Assessment System; CPR; Circulatory System; Nervous System; Respiratory System; Fractures, Stable Injuries; Splints 1-Extremities; Hypothermia; Hyperthermia and Heat Illness; Near Drowning; Lightning Injuries; Wounds and Burns; Anaphylaxis; Lifting, Moving Extrication; Patient Carries; Backcountry Medicine

Are there any pre-requisites for this course?
No prior experience is necessary.
What can I bring into the event?
The course will have some classroom-based sessions interspersed with extended outdoor scenarios. These will take place rain or shine, so be prepared for the elements!
Recommended personal gear to bring:
Raingear/wind layer tops and bottoms
Layers of clothing (so you can take a layer off if you are hot/put one on if you are cold and also to use in the building of splints)
Sun hat & warm hat
Backpack to put everything in
Water bottles (1qt or 1 liter) for drinking water
Footwear for the environment (close-toed shoes for being outdoors/sandals are OK for inside)
What about meals and lodging?
Lodging is available at nearby hotels (ask the Holiday Inn & Home2Suites about their Earlham rates), airbnbs, and the Quaker Hill Conference Center.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancellations submitted in writing before Mar 1 are eligible for a refund, subject to a 20% processing fee. On or after Mar 1, there will be no refunds.
