Close out our 2024 Journey of Water program series by joining us for a visit to a unique local wetland: Larch Meadow at Buttermilk Falls State Park! For more info & to register: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/01e10fea-1c60-4c7b-b3a5-5cdb46df308b
Community Science Institute Staff will lead participants on an easy hike ~ 1-mile along the Larch Meadows trail, and we'll learn about this unique wetland. Wetlands function as a natural filter helping to remove pollutants, toxins, and sediments from the water. If you attend the first "Wild Wetlands" program at the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge, this is a completely different type of wetland, and it's worth attending this one as well! You’ll get up close looks at diverse plants and animals that call the wetlands “home” making this a truly unique and very important ecosystem. After this immersive experience, we will find a shady spot to then “DIY” our own filter systems! All materials will be provided, and participants will apply some of what they learned about filtration and a bit of creativity to see what materials are most efficient to visually filter water the best.
