Join us on an enjoyable 3-4 mile hike along soft dirt, gravel, stairs and bridges to help engage our senses with the surrounding beauty of nature and the wonder of restoration efforts underway for Coal Creek and salmon habitat, native plants and wildlife. Learn a bit about the cultural history of the area and imagine how our ancestors once worked and lived amongst the wildness.
The Coal Creek Trail connects with the Primrose Loop and Red Town area which highlight the coal mining and lumber industries as well as abundant habitat for wildlife and fauna and the people who call this home.
Trailhead: Coal Creek Parkway Trailhead (aka Red Cedar Trailhead at Coal Creek Natural Area)
Directions/Parking: Coal Creek Natural Area Parking/west side: Take exit 10 off I-405 for Coal Creek Parkway, heading east. Continue for 1.2 miles on Coal Creek Parkway. At the bottom of the hill, on the left, is the parking lot, across from a No Left Turn sign. Continue until you can find a place to safely and legally turn around, then approach from the south to enter the Red Cedar Trailhead (200ft). There is room for nineteen vehicles, including one handicap parking stall. MEET AT INFORMATION BOARD.
Trails: Coal Creek Trail @ Red Cedar Trailhead, Primrose Loop, Sandstone Falls, Primrose Seam area and/or to Red Town. (Porta potties onsite.)
Distance: 3-4 miles
Elevation Gain: 300-500 ft.
