Wild Onion is held in the Spring after Berry. It is a social gathering that celebrates the appearance of the wild onions – which are always part of the meal.
Traditionally, this meal would also feature small game such as squirrel and rabbit. Like Fish Day, it is a time of fellowship with storytelling and social stomps. This social was held as a time to recharge after the hard work of tilling the earth and planting the crops. It was usually held after the planting of the first corn crop but before the planting of the second to give the people a break from the hard work of agriculture.
This is also a time when repairs to the Square are often made in anticipation for the renewal of Green Corn. In some Squares this would be observed as “Arbor” which is a reference to the repair of the “arbors” or cabins of the Square.
