Join Chris Swinson of Mycophile’s Garden for an afternoon identifying some of the 1,000 species of mushrooms that grow in Michigan. We’ll begin with a 1 hour lecture covering the basic terms, types, habitats, and physical characteristics of our local fungi. Heading outside, we’ll spend 1.5 hours utilizing our newly acquired knowledge to search for and identify mushrooms and the characteristics needed to accurately describe, discuss, and identify them. Throughout the class we’ll discuss the importance of using the scientific names when studying or discussing fungi, as well as how to identify toxic fungi, how to best prepare and consume wild mushrooms, and more! This spring class will have a focus on morels!
Chris will have mushroom grow kits for sale at the class. Please note this is for educational purposes only – this is not a foraging/collecting class.
