About this Event
THEME FOR THIS WALK: Midsummer wild flowers and tree medicines. Stanmer park is full of mature trees, some of which can be harnessed for herbal medicine. We will also learn about other seasonal plants and flowers.
Learn how to safely identify and sustainably harvest these wild medicinal plants and weeds and learn about the different ways you might prepare them at home from drying for tea or making oils or tinctures. Jessie will also share some of the fascinating history and folklore surrounding the use of these wild plants.
You will be stunned to learn about the rich medicinal traditions of many of the plants we consider ‘weeds’.
The walks will focus on what is in season and ready to use at that particular time of year. This is usually predominately leaves in spring, flowers later in the spring and summer, then seeds, berries and roots in the late summer and autumn. However, there are usually a bit of all of these things at all times of year!
The walks are not strenuous or particularly far in distance, they are more of a slow and relaxing ramble, with the emphasis on looking and learning (and sometimes tasting) rather than making distance. All abilities will be welcome. The walk starting location is accessible by public transport.
Jessie has an infectious enthusiasm for wild plants and foraging and loves passing on her extensive knowledge of them.
Please see your confirmation email for full location details and where to meet.
