Join us for this beginner's foraging class where you'll learn to identify wild edible plants, uncover their rich history, and explore their practical culinary uses. This immersive class will guide you through recognizing safe and nutritious plants while offering tips on how to incorporate them into delicious meals. Perfect for nature enthusiasts, food lovers, and anyone curious about living off the land!
Instructor: Chef Yuda Abitbol
Chef Yuda Abitol was born in Kahaluu on Oahu , I attended Kalani high school and grew up in town. His background is in fine dinning and I’m self taught in regards to botany. He is currently a private chef with a focus on foraging, hunting and fishing. He uses mainly invasive plants and animals in his cooking and teaches a wild mushroom identification class. What to wear/bring:
- Comfortable, closed-toe shoes with good traction (required) You should be prepared to walk on uneven terrain.
- Long pants (to keep mosquitoes off. Optional: a light jacket or long-sleeved outer shirt.)
- Bug Spray (optional but recommended)
- Rain jacket or poncho
- Water bottle (optional but recommended)
The class will meet at the upstairs Visitor Center classroom with a walk through the Lyon Arboretum grounds.
Proceeds from this class go to the Lyon Arboretum Education Department.
