THE WILD DEER ULTRA EVENT will return on 20th October 2024 from Shotley Bridge, Consett, County Durham. The 53km circular route starts at Shotley Bridge near Consett in County Durham and takes you along the Derwent Walk and Waskerley Way to Waskerley Reservoir, where you then head over the moors to Smiddy Shaw Reservoir and Hisehope Reservoir. After crossing the moors there is a short stretch on the road through Muggleswick before picking up footpaths of Derwent Gorge and Muggleswick Woods towards Mosswood. You then reach Shotley Bridge, following the footpath along the river towards Ebchester, Blackhall Mill and crossing over at Hamsterley to pick up the Derwent Walk back to the finish line!
Runners can start between 7.30am and 8.30am and will have 9.5 hours of daylight to complete the course. (Timing will be active until 6pm - 10.5 hours).
The route, which has been meticulously planned to show you the beauty of County Durham with spectacular views along the way, will be signposted and marshalled with three fully stocked feed stations, WC facilities at the start, finish and part way through the run.
For safety, runners must run with a backpack with mandatory kit including water/fluids, charged mobile phone with emergency contacts saved (ICE) some food/gels, headtorch (if expecting to finish after 4.30pm) and a lightweight jacket.
All finishers will get a Medal, exclusive Wild Deer Ultra Beanie Hat, snacks & drinks. There will also be free parking and photography.
