About this Event

Join us for a talk about Wild Cattle of Chillingham:The Natural History of an Ancient Breed, the definitive new book by Professor Stephen Hall. Drawing on decades of research and lifelong involvement with the Chillingham herd, Professor Hall offers an up-to-date, multidisciplinary look at one of Britain’s most iconic natural history treasures.

Discover why the Wild Cattle of Chillingham Castle, the only accessible herd in the world living with minimal human interference, provide unique insights into cattle as a species. Learn about their remarkable history, behaviour, and ecological significance, and hear directly from the leading expert who has dedicated his career to understanding them.

Come along for an engaging talk, Q&A, and the chance to explore the extraordinary story of this ancient breed.

Light refreshments provided.

About the Book

This book meets a need for a definitive monograph of one of the most significant icons of British natural history, and adopts a novel approach by placing original research in an up-to-date multidisciplinary context.

As they are the only accessible cattle worldwide that live under conditions of minimal human interference, the Chillingham herd is uniquely placed to provide insights into many aspects of the life of cattle as a species rather than as a component of livestock systems.

Part of the Tuesdays @ 'The Hancock' series.

Join us on the first Tuesday of the month for talks exploring the stories behind natural history.
