About this Event

This class is perfect for anyone eager to help – no experience needed, just a passion for wildlife. We’ll provide all the materials and basic training you need to volunteer with us. Whether you’d like to help transport small songbirds or support with larger birds like raptors, you can choose the level of involvement that’s right for you.

What You'll Learn

• How to identify signs of injury or illness in wild birds.

• Proper handling techniques to ensure the safety of both you and the bird.

• The tools and equipment needed for safe bird rescue.

• Guidelines for when and how to intervene in a bird's natural habitat.

• Transportation tips to minimize stress on the bird during transit.

This quarter, we'll touch on baby bird season and how to help the next generation of birds!

This class is designed for adults, so participants must be 18 or older. We kindly ask that children under 18 not attend.

• Where is the class hosted?

While there won’t be live birds to handle, you’ll learn handling techniques using our cherished plush toy, Petey the Pelican!

• What happens after training?

After completing the class, you’ll be invited to submit our volunteer application. Once approved, you’ll be eligible to serve as a rescue volunteer and can indicate the days and times that work best for you.
