Vienna‘s Queer X Gazino: A celebration of resilient diversity
Vienna‘s Queer X Gazino is a cultural initiative, celebrating the diversity and resilience of Vienna‘s migrant and LGBTQIA+ communities, showcasing their rich cultural contributions. It is a joyful party finding its roots in the tradition of the Gazinos, seated Turkish clubs, combining traditional Arabesque music - a blend of Turkish folklore music with Arabic influences and Western pop – with contemporary themes, creating an inclusive space for performances, dance and
artistic expression. The closing event of WIENWOCHE 2024 is also a celebration of the legacy and culture of the ‘guest workers’, marking the 60th anniversary of the Labor recruitment agreement between Turkey and Austria.
“Gullüminaj“ refers to the concepts and origins of resistance. ‘Gûllüm’ stands for fun, a conversation with a lot of laughter – we make ‘gûllüm‘ to forget the pain and sorrow. It is a testament to the resilience and joy found in entertainment, a form of resistance for marginalized communities.
Vienna‘s Queer X Gazino creates a loving and safe space and promotes those, who are often marginalized in the mainstream entertainment venues. The setting of a wedding hall provides experiences for various senses: musically, visually and culinary. LGBTQIA+ artists* transform a mix of Arabesque and Western pop into a powerful expression of different identities and emotions, offering an alternative narrative of heteronormative themes. Come and experience moments of joy, reclaim your space and create new forms of activism and solidarity through cultural celebration!
