Larges lyrically driven songwriting can be categorized in the all-encompassing camp of indie/folk rock, which he more accurately describes as sad dad rock for those whose only children are memories of the friends, loves, and lives we spent our youth both chasing and running from.WIDOWERs latest release Baby We Were was recorded over a couple of years beginning February of 2017 at a cabin on the edge of Lake Cle Elum in central Washington. Large continued working on it in various places around the country including New York, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and Seattle. He eventually found some semblance of sense that rarely comes from seemingly endless sessions, with help from producer and collaborator Sam Miller. The album features dozens of dear friends from said cities including members of The Head and The Heart, as well as musicians that perform with Katy Perry, Mark Lanegan and more. Baby We Were, with its Frankenstein-esque origin really came to life when it was exquisitely mixed by Yuuki Matthews of The Shins.Larges reverence for Springsteen and 80s English rock is self-evident throughout the entire album. Baby We Were is the sonic embodiment of warm, sullen summer nights and distant shore memories of a seventeen year old Garden State Steinbeck wanna-be bringing dates to a cemetery in the 1990s.
