About this Event
If you ask people in Britain who won WW2 they’d probably say Roosevelt and Churchill; many would pass over mention of the Soviet Union but most would not have the slightest inkling that China was our ally. In fact had it not been for China’s contribution in the Far East, the war in Europe might never have been won.
Why has China’s vital role in WW2 been forgotten in the West? Failure to recognise it leaves us with an unbalanced view of history and a distorted understanding of the world today
Following her recent trip to Beijing, China specialist Jenny Clegg will report on China’s perspective on the worldwide Anti-Fascist War as a war of liberation, explore stories of cooperation between Britain and China during the war years, and consider developments in post Asia with the US claiming world leadership as the victor over fascism.
With the world now at a crossroads between war and peace, our international perspective needs the grounding of history to better prepare for a multipolar future; China, a founding member of the UN, seeks to restore its role as the primary organisation of world peace.
