Who Speaks For Earth, Environmental Arts Program
Mission Statement:
Who Speaks for Earth is a multi-media arts experience combining music video, live performance, and hands-on workshops. Our goal is to inspire children and young people to express their love and concern for wildlife and the environment by creating their own music and artwork.
Program Description in brief:
After short hike around the immediate area of the nature center to explore local flora and fauna there will be a short performance (8-10 min) including sing-along, and a music video to introduce songs about animals and endangered species. This will be followed an brief, interactive overview of song structure and lyric writing.
The children will select an animal of their choice; possibly one from the immediate area/environment, learn about its importance to the environment, habitat, how it survives, etc.
We will then work in small groups of 4-6 or as one large group, depending on the population and attendance, to come up with descriptive language, rhymes, brainstorm lyric, creating a song together. Some of the group may opt to draw pictures of the animals or if there is time, we can do both.
Using laptop recording equipment, we would then record what we have created.
An MP3 of the song would be provided to the nature center, library, school, etc to distribute or post as they see fit, with the credit to include “ A Who Speaks For Earth, Production”
