his month, on October 15th, the Vinton Police Department is partnering with Virginia Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired (DBVI) for a fun and educating community event celebrating independence, accessibility, and safety for blind and visually impaired individuals..About DBVI:
The Department for the Blind & Vision Impaired provides valuable resources and services to individuals living with blindness, vision impairments, and hearing impairments.
This event is open to everyone—whether you are blind, have low vision, or simply want to learn more about vision resources. DBVI provides services to individuals who are blind, deaf, or have other vision impairments caused by, but not limited to: Macular Degeneration, Cataracts, Glaucoma, Diabetic Retinopathy, Retinitis Pigmentosa, Stroke, Trauma, etc.
LIVE MUSIC will be provided – featuring Dennis Helms, who is a blind musician and Myke Caldwell, who is a Lieutenant with the Vinton Police Department.
FREE LUNCH to include hot dogs, chips, and drinks will be provided by the Vinton Police Department.

Under the guidance of an O&M, test out your skills using a white cane to navigate a course.
