Versipel New Music invites you to join us at one of our most beloved venues, Cafe Istanbul, for our first show of the new year. Our mission to present and promote “music inspired by our modern, peripatetic, global and technologically driven lives” is on full display with Whispers and Shouts, a program of eclectic and and far-ranging music by fresh voices from the United States contemporary music scene. These works cast a wide net of real, human experience, from the wild, emotional tapestry of child rearing reflected in Heather Stebbins’ At the Wind’s Hand to the realities of violence and racism in Alvin Singleton’s Jasper Drag. Pieces also explore human experience with nature in Drew Farrar’s Kauaʻi ʻōʻō and Philip Schuessler’s Iris fulva - meditations on an extinct bird species and a delicate flower species respectively. Elsewhere, Theresa Martin’s Gryphon explores the characteristics of the mythical, titular creature; and Jeff Herriott’s Trio is a mediation on formal structure.
Tickets: $20 [$10 student or senior]
