We will share our glimmers, the things that calm and delight us, to create poetry. We will construct group poems and create tiny poems by combining adjectives and concrete nouns inspiring lines of gleeful surprise. We will look at the poems of Andrea Gibson, Joy Harjo, and Yesika Delgado and culminate with composing an I Am poem. This 2-part workshop explores poetry's tiniest form and builds to composing fuller performative slam poems. We will examine what is spoken word slam poetry and its relationship to the poem as we understand it as poets. This workshop fosters a positive and nurturing space allowing poets of all levels and styles to explore new ways of channeling their powerful and resilient selves on the page and the stage. Participants are encouraged to attend both workshops but may choose to register for the workshop of their choice.
Regie Cabico is a spoken word pioneer having won The Nuyorican Poets Cafe Grand Slam. Mr. Cabico was a featured poet at the 2022 Whitney Biennial and received the 2006 Writers for Writers Award from Poets & Writers. He is a lead teaching artist at the John F.
