Today is a such a great tour. Wheelchair for Kids has been providing such a great service for so many years, and now's your chance to see behind the scenes at how it all happens while helping support a great cause at the same time. Heavily supported by Rotary, it truly is the epitome of a "not for profit" organisation.

So first stop is our famous Morning Tea at Neil Hawkins Park overlooking Lake Joondalup, followed by our guided tour of Wheelchair for Kids. Time permitting we will have a little stop at an Op-Shop or Bric-a-Brac store before lunch. By then Morning Tea will have worn off and we'll all be ready for a great lunch at the Ocean View Tavern.

WHEELCHAIRS for KIDS
Giving freedom and mobility worldwide
The world over, millions of children with disabilities can’t get access to adequate wheelchairs—and the impact on their quality of life is profound.
Many are forced to live on the earthen floor of huts or wait to be carried, making them more vulnerable to disease, malnutrition and armed conflict, as well as experiencing lower educational attainment and higher rates of poverty.
Wheelchairs for Kids is a volunteer-based not-for-profit organisation providing the transformative gift of mobility to children in impoverished and under resourced communities both in Australia and around the globe.
Wheelchairs For Kids Mission Statement
To remain a voluntary organization as far as practicable, to raise funds for, develop and build, children’s rough terrain, completely adjustable wheelchairs with all supportive accoutrements. To donate these wheelchairs and ensure that they are properly fitted to needy, disabled children, in lesser resourced countries.
Wheelchairs for children made in WA
In September 2021, Wheelchairs for Kids produced their 50,000th Wheelchair, since commencing production in 1998.
At Wheelchairs for Kids, we have around 800 passionate, hard-working volunteers who are the cornerstone of our operations. Retired men and women over 55, with 250 volunteers on factory production and the remainder in other areas of operation on related tasks. Our volunteers dedicate their time and expertise to manufacture wheelchairs from scratch, ensuring they are fully adjustable for children of all sizes and accommodate their growing needs.
Volunteers also assist with cutting and sewing covers for the wheelchair seat backs and knitting knee rugs and soft toys to ensure maximum comfort. This means we are able to minimise manufacturing and administrative costs allowing for 100% of our funding to go towards our mission. Made to World Health Organization guidelines, and made by an all volunteer workforce in the Wangara, Perth factory, the Wheelchair is fully adjustable, to allow for the child’s growth. It is made as a rough terrain wheelchair, it has solid puncture proof tyres complete with wheel covers and a single front wheel which makes it easier to travel over rough pot-holed jungle tracks.
