Perfect for absolute beginners or those looking to refresh their skills, this workshop provides a supportive and engaging environment to learn and create. Over the course of three sessions, you'll transform lumps of clay into beautiful, functional bowls, crafting five to six pieces that reflect your unique style. The workshop is priced at $150 for LACA members and $170 for non-members. Registration includes all necessary supplies. Written reference guides will be provided, and all pottery created during the workshop will be fired in the LACA studio. This 3-part workshop takes place on three consecutive Tuesdays starting May 6, (May 6, 13 and 20) from 6 - 8 p.m. Our journey begins with the exciting process of throwing on the potter's wheel. Under expert guidance, you'll learn the essential steps of centering, opening, and shaping clay, experiencing the tactile joy of molding your own creations. In the second session, we'll refine our work through trimming, where you'll discover how to sculpt the perfect foot and achieve a polished finish. This crucial step not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of your bowls but also ensures their stability and functionality.
Finally, in our third session, we'll explore the art of glazing, adding color and depth to your finished pieces. You'll learn various glazing techniques, allowing you to personalize your bowls and bring them to life with vibrant hues and unique textures. To support your learning, we'll provide comprehensive written reference guides, ensuring you have the tools and knowledge to continue your pottery journey.
