Join us at the Imagination Refinery as we delve together into the wonderful world of ceramics.
This 6 week course is developed and refined by us throughout the years to achieve a perfect blend of fun and engaging pottery lessons coupled with the more technical - detail oriented aspects of this artform.
Ceramics wheel throwing may seem daunting at first but we are here to break everything down for you and get you acquainted with all that this wonderful side of ceramics has to offer.
From complete novices to the more experienced this course is open to all who wish to learn or perfect their craft and we will take you from the foundations of wheel throwing all the way to the finer details of trimming, glazing work and firing.
Week one: Introduction to Wheel Throwing
In this first week we will be learning the basic skills involved in throwing a confident piece of pottery. Later in the course we’ll be building upon these fundamental skills to refine and craft unique pieces of work.
Week Two: Practise and Refine
In week two we’ll continue to practise and refine our throwing skills, before moving onto a ‘Trimming’ demonstration (the process of trimming clay to refine the shape of a wheel-thrown pot).
Week Three: Introduction to Throwing Bowls
In week three we’ll be enhancing our skills and learning some of the different methods to throwing bowls. We will also learn to refine the base of our pots, by trimming ‘foot rings’ on the bottoms.
Week Four: Techniques for Improvement
A week for practising these skills, creating more pieces of work, and honing in on specific techniques to improve our making.
Week Five: Trimming & Introduction to Glazing
In week five we will refine and shape our work using the method of ‘trimming’, before moving on to an introduction to the exciting and vast world of glazing.
Week Six: Glazing & Course Recap
A creative session for glazing and decorating our final pieces. This week is also an opportunity to recap what we’ve learnt throughout our journey together.
