About this course
This is a short taster course that will give you a brief introduction to Sewing Design and Construction. The focus will be working to a pattern to produce a simple bag. The course will explore the functions of the sewing machine, using settings on the sewing machine, using decorative stitches and the use of various sewing machine feet. Techniques covered will include simple seams, zips, button, designing, cutting, measuring and assembly. You will design and make a simple bag using a range of basic techniques.
Who is this course for?
This course is open to all those who have little or no experience in sewing, design and construction and want to ‘have a go’ in a supportive, friendly group.
What & how will I learn?
Through tutor demonstrations and your own practical work. The tutor will give group and individual instruction, encouragement and advice in the use of materials, techniques and processes. While the course outcomes and your personal objectives will be discussed and agreed at the first session, upon completion of this course you should be able: * To use materials and equipment. * To plan and produce a final piece. * To record the techniques and materials used, with Health and Safety notes, to support work.
Assessment methods
The tutor will check your work throughout the course and give you advice and feedback. During the course an internal moderator will check the tutor assessment; you just build a body of work.
What next?
Following this course, you may want to progress to the next level and onto a longer course. This would be a Level 1 Award in Creative Craft Sewing, Design and Garment Construction or Level 1 Award Textiles. You may decide that you want to join a leisure Craft group in your Centre, or move across to a beginners Art course.
Will I have to pay?
