What's In Your Baggie? Drug Checking & Harm Reduction

Join us on Tuesday, May 31st for a special in-person Harm Reduction event with guest speakers from Altered States integration. Tobey and Elizabeth will share what they have learned from over 10 years of experience providing psychedelic peer support at festivals. This presentation will offer an introduction to the world of harm reduction, demonstrate substance testing, and discuss psychedelic benefit maximization.

Harm reduction is more of an attitude than any single intervention. This presentation will review the history of Harm Reduction and its intersection with psychedelics. We will provide actionable steps toward keeping you and your community safer.

While we can’t know exactly what we are buying from the black market, reagent testing can provide some clues to reduce the risk of consuming bath salts, amphetamines, or other undesired adulterants in powders, pills, and paper. It is one of the most accessible tools used to identify unknown substances for the home user. We will teach and demonstrate the use of a 4 test reagent panel, live.

Fentanyl overdoses are now the number one cause of death for adults between 18 and 45 years old in the U.S. As part of our discussion on substance testing, we will teach how to use fentanyl testing strips to scan for fentanyl contamination. We will also discuss what to do in the unfortunate incident of an opiate overdose.

Once the risk of harm is reduced with these simple tools, benefit maximization can be pursued in a healing context. Psychedelic benefit maximization focuses on strategies and techniques to get the most out of an entheogenic session.

This event will:

• Present an introduction to Harm Reduction principles
• Teach the basics of home reagent & fentanyl testing
• Discuss Psychedelic Benefit Maximization
• Provide reagent testing - time permitting
• Purchase of this event includes: a recording of the program, digital resource guide, and fentanyl test strip specific video, sent out after the class.

This event will be a presentation and Q&A for approximately 90 minutes.

Altered States Integration is an online organization for psychedelic education, integration, & harm reduction. We believe in the healing power of altered states when used in a conscious and considerate way. Psychedelics are an excellent tool for reaching deeper levels of personal growth and potentiate change when used mindfully. We offer psychedelic coaching, pre-trip safety assessments, and aftercare integration.

Elizabeth J.O. Bio:

Elizabeth J.O. is a Holistic Nutritionist and Change Coach with 12 years of clinical experience. Since graduating from Bastyr University, she has studied: MHFA, human behavior, psychology, yoga, flow states, and mindfulness-based therapies. In her free time, she offers peer support in online forums and volunteers at festivals offering psychedelic harm reduction with Zendo Project, Fireside Project, N.E.S.T, RestPit, and Sanctuary. She has authored Breaking Emotional Addiction: Neurohacking BPD with Ibogaine, detailing her personal healing journey. Elizabeth is passionate about reducing barriers to finding compassionate support for processing non-ordinary states of consciousness. Elizabeth is a founder and integration coach at Altered States Integration providing psycho-educational content.

Tobey Tobey Bio:

Tobey Tobey is a founder and coach at Altered States Integration using holistic and multidisciplinary approaches to personal growth with psychedelics. He has 6 years of experience as a harm reductionist with Zendo Project, N.E.S.T., DanceSafe, and Harmonia offering on-site peer support and drug education. Tobey is passionate about community outreach and policy change including canvassing for Decriminalize Nature - Washington D.C. and Initiative-301 in Denver. He is a founder and past president of the Psychedelic Club of Denver. Tobey is a Naropa University Candidate for an M.A. in Clinical Mental Health with a concentration in Mindfulness-based Transpersonal Counseling. He is excited to use his education to continue his work as a community builder and psychedelic advocate.
