The Canadian International Council National Capital Branch (CIC-NCB) invites you to a compelling discussion on November 27, where we will delve into the potential implications of the election results for Canada and its key allies in Europe. This event will feature distinguished speakers, H.E. Mme Bellman, the current Ambassador of Germany, and Dr. Ramūnas Vilpišauskas, the 2024 Konrad Adenauer Visiting Scholar on Transatlantic Relations at Carleton University. Together, they will provide a thorough analysis of the election's aftermath, exploring its significance for various stakeholders—government, businesses, and civil society alike. This event will provide an opportunity for attendees to understand the impact of the election on domestic policies, transatlantic relations, and the wider global geopolitical landscape.

H.E. Mme Bellman, Ambassador of Germany has served as German Ambassador to Canada since September 2024. She will share this position with her husband – they will alternate every 8 months. She previously held the position of Assistant Deputy Minister at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin. In this role, her responsibilities included bilateral relations with Canada, the United States, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Central Asia, the Western Balkans, EFTA countries and Russia, as well as the G7, NATO, Arctic Policy, the EU Common Foreign and Security Policy, the OSCE and the Council of Europe. Before that, she was Director for Security Policy and served in various roles in the field of security policy, in the Press Division at the Foreign Office as well as at the German Embassies in Tel Aviv and Tehran. She has been awarded the Lithuanian Medal of Honour “Lithuanian Diplomacy Star” and the Polish award ”Bene Merito”.
Dr. Ramūnas Vilpišauskas is the 2024 Konrad Adenauer Visiting Scholar on Transatlantic Relations at Carleton University and a member of the European Council on Foreign Relations. He has been conducting research on the implications of the U.S. presidential elections for transatlantic economic and political relations, as well as for the management of the ongoing war in Ukraine. He was awarded the Jean Monnet Chair for 2020-2023. From 2009 to 2019, he served as the director of the Institute. Previously, he worked as Chief Economic Policy Advisor to President Valdas Adamkus (2004-2009) and was Chief of Staff (2006-2009). He is a member of the Lithuanian Progress Council and the European Council on Foreign Relations, as well as the Academic Advisory Board of the Institute für Europäische Politik in Berlin. He has collaborated with organizations like the World Bank, OECD, and the European Commission on public sector reforms and European integration.
Moderator: Homa Azodi is an advisor for the Europe Study Group and an officer at Global Affairs Canada. She is currently completing her Master’s degree at the Institut d'études internationales de l'Université de Montréal. Homa has been a member of the Stakeholder Advisory Group for the International Forum on Information and Democracy since June 2024. She conducted research on Europe titled "Do International and National Standards Contribute to the Disinformation of Citizens on Migration Issues?" In addition, she is among more than 2,500 sources consulted worldwide for the first version of the 2024 Annual Report for the Global Initiative for Information and Democracy, following the Internet Governance Forum 2023 in Kyoto, Japan.
