In connection with our latest exhibition - “Landscape Covered Earth” - Sári Szántó’s presentation will discuss the art historical aspects of landscape painting.
What surrounds us, where we are living has inevitably affects us, regardless of age and technical advancements. The idea of landscape is a form of making sense of this surrounding, however it also has its boundaries and contradictions. The perception of nature and ourselves in connection with it still has hidden secrets, and the desire to discover and learn about it is expressed in us again and again.
"Landscapes are created by looking at nature, organising it into a unity and then giving it meaning by imposing our own cultural codes. Hence we often see it as opposed to our world, as something we are outside of. But it is precisely because of this distance that it can take on meaning and act as a mediating medium." This line of thought has been transformed in many ways on the long map of art history, come and see how it has been decoded until nowadays.
The presentation will be in English.
