About this Event

Screened in 35mm! Set in South Central, Los Angeles, CA in the 1990s, director John Singleton’s groundbreaking feature film, Boyz n the Hood, broke the cinematic mold when he portrayed the reality of the lives of Black youth in America’s urban centers—especially in the American West. Featuring many breakout performances, the film humanized South Los Angeles despite the reality of structural barriers that surrounded it toward the end of the 20th century. Commemorating its 31st anniversary, Boyz n the Hood remains a stalwart and an essential contribution to the canon of American Cinema.
