About this Event
Presenters:
Dr. María Ciriza Lope (SPAN) and Dr. Rashaan DeShay (CRJU)
Concept: Twice a semester, AddRan will host “What I Teach” sessions in which two faculty members from two different departments talk to attendees about something specific they teach in their discipline, why it’s important, how it contributes to a student’s general preparation for the workforce and life, and how it intersects with other disciplines. In addition, the speakers offer a “teaching hack,” some activity they use in their discipline/classroom that they think could be used by others in other classes and disciplines: a teaching take-away.
Why: As a teacher-scholar institution, we need to think about our contributions to teaching as well as to research. Workshops with a “sage on the stage” are not enough. It is important that we understand each other’s disciplines and learn from each other. The idea is to build a teaching community across departments and ranks. While these sessions will feature short presentations (15 minutes), the emphasis will be on discussion and exchange.
