DESCIPTION:
Please join the Building Enclosure Council of Greater Detroit for our Tuesday, November 19th program at SmithGroup in downtown Detroit!!! If you joined us at our January program with CSI you may remember we discussed the pros and cons of vapor permeable and vapor impermeable air barriers and their effect on moisture transmission through an exterior wall system. In this spin-off presentation, we dive deeper into understanding how other materials within the wall effect the performance of the system in relation to moisture. This 1.5 hour long presentation will include hygrothermal fundamentals, but it will go beyond typical condensation discussions by adding a focus on exposure and material response based on its properties and location within the assembly – ultimately affecting the wall’s durability and performance.
You won’t want to miss this great presentation specific to Detroit area construction methods and wall assemblies!!
Learning Objectives:
- Understand how materials get wet and how they get dry
- Learn how water moves through materials
- Understand the basics of material durability in the context of moisture
- Explore using WUFI to assess wall assembly performance
- Learn how the limitations in hygrothermal modelling can lead to misleading results
- Identify when and where a vapor diffusion control layer is beneficial and when it’s detrimental
