Join us for a conversation with Angelika Burstcher and Daniele Lupo, Artistic Director of Lungomare (Bozen, Italy) to talk about situated creative practices for the pluriverse. We will also present the upcoming open call that Bulgarian-based artists are welcome to apply for.
Lungomare is a platform for design and cultural production that carries out commissions and initiates artistic projects. The work encompasses communication and exhibition design, spatial concepts and curatorial projects. Operating in a variety of different spaces—public and private, virtual and print, urban and curated—Lungomare creates meeting places and experiential spaces in the urban context, inviting artists to develop thematic and site-specific projects with a focus on socio-political issues. The team combines knowledge from art and design in theory and practice, involving dialogue with artists, scientists and experts from all walks of life. This allows Lungomare to explore new perspectives and collectively negotiate the spaces which are designed.
"Situated Creative Practices for the Pluriverse" is a Creative Europe Cooperation project tackling socio-ecological challenges through cross-disciplinary research, and context-specific artistic interventions. Drawing on the Zapatista concept of the pluriverse—"a world where many worlds fit"—the project embraces diverse ways of knowing and living, foregrounding buen vivir (social well-being), communal interdependence, and the relationships between human and more-than-human entities.
🌀 SIT-RES are 4 residencies where practitioners selected through an open call will be invited to engage with a specific context (social, geographical, historical) for one year and develop new forms of creative intervention/cultural mediation: ZEMOS98 (Spain); Idensitat (Spain); Lungomare (Italy); Baltan Laboratories (Netherlands).
🌀 The artistic residency at Lungomare (IT) will focus on "Liquid Territories and Learning Sites" within FLUX – River Interventions and Explorations, a Lungomare project initiated in 2022 to reimagine riverscapes in Bolzano. The selected artist / urban practitioner or collective will work on site-specific interventions addressing the rivers’ ecological, cultural, and social dimensions. The artistic work and urban practice challenges existing perceptions of rivers and their potential as sites for connection, learning, and re-naturalization. Through interdisciplinary collaboration and participatory processes, the residencies explore the multifaceted relationships between humans, water, and the ecosystems that inhabit these liquid territories, envisioning new futures for sustainable and inclusive coexistence.
