Westside (Tuesdays): Meet up in the Rock River Marina parking lot at 5:45 PM for a brief ride overview and safety talk & roll out at 6:00 PM SHARP! A group always goes to Market (1137 Linda St, Rocky River, OH 44116) for drinks/food after - an open invite to all!
Due to riders at different paces, we will be splitting up into A, B, C and perhaps D groups. D group is mandatory NO DROP! The pace line group guidelines are as follows:
Please know that the paces listed are the pace you ride in a GROUP, not alone. It is normal to ride much faster in a group setting than you do by yourself. Don't worry, come on up!
“A” group - Push off at 6:00 PM sharp. Experienced group riders only. Build on the way out (20 - 22 mph) with no speed limit on the way back. This is a drop ride but please keep it in control on the way out - save the 25+ mph breakaways for the return!
“B” group - push off at 6:04 PM. Speed TBD based on group ability. Usually, 19-21 mph.
"C" group (sometimes called B minus!) - push off at 6:07 PM. Speed TBD based on group ability. Usually, 17-19 mph.
“D” group - push off at 6:10 PM. This is for people newer to riding in groups or for those that want to go under 16. We will go over pace lining and bike handling skills. No one will be left behind! Note: if the group is very small (due to weather, early/late in the season), sometimes there is no interest/need for this group. Posting on the CTC FB is helpful to ensure you have a friend to ride with!
These rides are structured as single pace line with the lead person pulling for a previously agreed upon distance or length of time. If you don’t wish to pull that is fine- when it’s your turn out front, simply check for vehicle traffic and then rotate safely to the back on the left-hand side to get to the end of the pace line.
When it is your turn to pull, maintain the appropriate pace (speed) for the group you are in. If you are feeling faster or slower, please notify the group lead and drop off instead of speeding up or slowing down the pace up front-this causes a zigzag effect which can lead to unsafe and unpredictable moves. If at any time you feel the need to drop out oft he line, please signal this and do so in a safe manner.
Have fun!
