The Symposium will include 2 panels of 4 experts in both criminal law and immigration law.
Panel 1- The Intersection of Criminal & Immigration Law: How They Differ and Their Complications
Exploration of the cross-over between immigration and criminal law; focusing on the complications of detention practices, competency, access to an attorney, bail and bond, ICE and local law enforcement, pleas, sentencing, and appeals.
Panel 2- Pathways to Successful Reentry: Overcoming Barriers for the Formerly Incarcerated
Discussion of post-conviction relief and how it can impact removability and promote rehabilitation. Examination of current post-conviction relief tools and whether they help or have a limited impact on overall rehabilitation, reintregration, and removal defense.
