The 105th annual convention of the Western Society of Naturalists is in Portland, Oregon this year at the DoubleTree Hotel. The Western Society of Naturalists is a scientific society with a strong focus on ecology, evolution, natural history, and marine biology. Its membership is primarily concentrated on the west coast of North America, though many members have spread far and wide. The main activity of the society is the annual meeting, held in November.Last year the event was held in Monterey and kelp restoration was very well represented with about 20% of the research about kelp restoration. We learned so much last year so we are going back again, this time to contribute to the discussion. We appreciate that this year the logo features a sea otter holding an urchin with giant kelp and bull kelp on either side.
