This autumn marks 50 years since Morocco illegally invaded the territory of Western Sahara. Western Sahara is, according to the United Nations, the last remaining colony in Africa. The people of the territory have the right to self-determination and independence, but this right is denied them by Morocco. Half the Saharawi people live as refugees abroad, while the territory ranks lowest in the world on rankings of political freedoms. The territory is wealthy on natural resources, plundered by Morocco and its international allies.
Leaders of the European Union, which elsewhere advocate for principles of international law, are among Morocco's most important supporters to the occupation.
SAIH Ås is hosting a lecture by Erik Hagen, director of the Norwegian Support Committee for Western Sahara.
