The next regular Westbourne Woods walk will be on Sunday 12 May, departing the gates of the Royal Canberra Golf Club at 9.30am. The guide will be Frank Grossbechler.

The theme for the walk will be “From the Nursery to the streets and parks of Canberra”.
MFrank is a retired horticulturist who spent 36 years at Yarralumla Nursery and for the 20 years to 1992 was Manager. His professional life also included 3 years as a Plant Quarantine Inspection Officer and several years as the Supervisor of the Tree Surgery Unit within the old Department of Interior. He is well known within the industry as a professional seed collector.

During the walk Frank will expand on the theme and talk about tree flowering and fruiting, seed production, the various types of tree propagation and the process of getting through the Nursery, early establishment and planting into the field. How the trees in the WW Arboretum fit into the picture will be discussed and he will give examples of where/how species trialled within WW have been incorporated into the Canberra Landscape.

The walk takes about 2 hours and is a leisurely stroll through the Woods with a knowledgeable guide.
