ABOUT:West Side Poetry Slam is a monthly hybrid open mic night where you can sign up on the night and perform an original piece of writing to open minds, hearts, and arms. Audience members score with a fun themed line of feedback and you could win a support feature slot at the next slam. Other performance art forms are also welcome. Anything can be poetry.
FEATURE - Father Stretch My Dad
Celebrated poet and dove enthusiast Phil Wilcox is an Australian Poetry Slam Champion and co-founder of the London Poetry Slam. Disgraced poet Troy Wong is the founder and creative director of Bread and Butter Poetry Slam, and the kind of person who doesn't own a TV. With their powers combined, they are Father Stretch My Dad, a comedy-themed poetry duo that they would both prefer to keep secret from their partners. They claim no responsibility for any emotional or psychological trauma accrued during their show.
SUPPORT FEATURE - Matthew Black
Hailing from the far flung outerscapes of Parramatta. Matthew Black takes inspiration from the tawdry, tendriled, tumultuous tapestries of the urban expanses and beyond. If it exists past Strathfield Station and is enough to scare the beige, badged Crocs off someone from Bondi with the mere flourish of the biro, Matthew will attempt to rhyme it.
Poet, preacher, prophet and pirate with pen and penchant for the profane, Matthew also spends his time singing folk music for The Bottlers, taking long wistful walks along the brown part of Parramatta River, discovering new and vibrant kebab shops and also ordering and eating new and vibrant kebabs.
Truly, a renaissance man.
