About this Event
*Small Group Walk - Registration required, limit of 10 participants
Description: West of Denman is a special place that stands apart from the rest of Vancouver’s West End, with well treed streets, traffic calming parkettes and proximity to popular parks and beaches. From tall treed forests of the past, to grand Victorian homes, then rooming houses, early masonry buildings built to a maximum of six storeys, to the current mix of those plus low-rise, high-rise and sky-rise apartment towers, it has become a blend of past and present, with many older hidden treasures. Next door to the large and beautiful 1000 acre Stanley Park, which was ranked 22nd in a 2023 list of top attractions in the world, tourists flock here. Come see West of Denman through the eyes of a long time resident.
Walk Leader: Elinor Warkentin has been a resident of Vancouver for 34 years, living in the West End for 25 years and West of Denman for the past 19. She loves her tranquil street and the proximity to Stanley Park, beaches, seawalls, running trails, and the ocean. While her neighborhood is a sought-after destination, she sometimes finds herself weary of the influx of non-locals and tourists, especially by mid-summer. However, she acknowledges the allure of her area and understands why people want to visit. As a seasoned world traveler, Elinor recognizes that popular global destinations are also someone's home, deserving respect from visitors. Welcome to Elinor's neighborhood!
