Join us at the West Oakland Branch Library on Saturday, February 28th, 2026, from 10am (PST) until 2pm (PST).
This Black History Month, join the Oakland Parks & Recreation Foundation (OPRF) as we come together to plant trees at the West Oakland Branch Library on Saturday, February 28th. Rain or shine, this hands-on volunteer day is about caring for our community, honoring environmental restoration through action, and growing a greener, more beautiful), and healthier Oakland.
Together, we plant the seeds that unite Oakland’s communities and help keep the Town green. We’re grateful to everyone who’s able to join us and show up for Oakland’s neighborhoods and green spaces.
*Please Note: Snacks and Refreshments will be provided at 9:30am (PST) under the green Oakland Parks and Recreation Foundation (OPRF) tent.
What to wear & bring - day of event
-PLEASE NOTE: All volunteers must be registered via eventbrite and sign the following waiver form by or on the day of Tree Planting (January 19th, 2026): VOLUNTEER RELEASE AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY AND INDEMNITY AGREEMENT - Google Forms
-Be prepared to get soil and other earthly residue on your attire.
-Suggested attire: Clothing you would normally wear for outdoor gardening: e.g., hats, sunscreen, sunglasses, close-toed footwear (required).
-Gloves and shovels will be provided.
-Bring your own water bottles.
Accessibility
-Look for the OPRF pop-up tent to register and sign-in for the day's activities.
-Please note: Tree Planting sites are spread out throughout West Oakland. Therefore, carpooling with other volunteers or driving between sites may be necessary for some volunteers.
-Volunteers will be lifting trees up to 50 pounds.
Participant Code of Conduct Notice
To ensure a safe, respectful, and successful planting for everyone involved:
All participants must follow instructions from OPRF staff, certified arborists, tree care specialists, and designated tree leads at all times. Failure to follow safety or planting instructions may result in dismissal from the event. OPRF and our tree leads reserve the right to make this call to protect people and trees. Registration and waiver completion are mandatory. You must be registered via the event link and have a signed waiver on file by the day of the event in order to participation. Unregistered participants cannot take part in planting activities. These guidelines help us protect volunteers, honor our partners, and ensure every tree is planted correctly and set up to thrive. Thank you for showing up with care, humility, and respect: for each other and for the land!
