About this Event

The route spans a total of 96 miles and we plan to complete this iconic trail in 7 days. We will be averaging around 13 miles a day. Beginning in Milngavie, near Glasgow, the route culminates in the picturesque Fort William, traversing the scenic Loch Lomond and the Highland valleys of Glen Coe.

While not overly challenging, the West Highland Way can test endurance due to factors like blisters and variable weather. Notable features include Conic Hill at 351 meters, the demanding day 2 along Loch Lomond, and the longest stretch on day 5 covering approximately 19 miles.

The expedition unfolds against breathtaking backdrops, from the majestic Loch Lomond to the mountainous valleys of Glen Nevis, the desolate Rannoch Moor, and camping in the captivating Glen Coe.
The Expedition:
Prepare for a camping experience in tents, primarily at established campsites, with one night at a wild campsite equipped with public amenities. Boots On Adventures will support you by carrying large bags, organizing food, and providing essentials. However, you'll navigate the trail independently, setting your own pace. A day sack with lunch and waterproofs is your responsibility, while we furnish a route summary.
Tents and sleeping mats are provided, though bringing your own is an option. Well-behaved dogs are welcome, but they should be leashed, adhering to site rules.
We will be arranging a training weekend in the Brecon Beacons on the 7th-9th June, with a nominal extra fee. This will allow you to meet the team as well as providing some training, guidance and where we will be able to answer any questions you may have. We recommend that you also book on some of the North Downs Way routes which will get you used to the millage (see separate booking).
We will be arranging several optional Zoom meetings where we will be able to answer any questions you may have.

Fitness
While the West Highland Way attracts people of all ages, it demands preparation. Trails are generally good, but Scottish weather can be unpredictable, and midges persistent. To ready yourself, practice walking with a 10Kg day pack for 12 miles, accounting for potential variations in pace and terrain challenges over the week.
