What is WAFFEST?
The West Africa Food Festival (WAFFEST) is a premier annual culinary event that celebrates the rich and diverse gastronomic heritage of West Africa. Established in 2018 by Chef Isaac Sackey through the Chefs Association of Ghana, WAFFEST brings together chefs, culinary professionals, policymakers, and food enthusiasts from across the region and beyond .
Purpose and Significance:
WAFFEST serves as a dynamic platform to:
Showcase Culinary Diversity: Highlighting traditional and contemporary West African Cuisines.
Foster Professional Development: Offering workshops, seminars and competitions to enhance skills and creativity amongst culinary professionals.
Promote Cultural Exchange: Encouraging collaboration between Francophone and Anglophone countries, thereby uniting diverse cultures through food .
Empower Youth: Providing mentorship and career opportunities for aspiring chefs, contributing to youth development and employment .
Historical Highlights
Since its inception, WAFFEST has been hosted in various West African countries:
2018: Inaugural event in Accra, Ghana.
2019: Hosted again in Ghana,reinforcing it's role in uniting regional culinary talents
2021: Held in Liberia, expanding it's reach and influence
2022: Returned to Ghana attracting over 500 participants from more than 20 cohntries
2023: Nigeria hosted the Festival. Maintaining the tradition of rotating venues.
2024: Togo was the host nation. Where the Ghana Traditional Caterers Association won gold emphazing the festival's competitive spirit and recognition of excellence.

Culinary Innovation: Encouraging Chefs to explore and blend traditional recipes with modern techniques
Economic Growth: Boosting local economies through tourism and Hospitality sectors through the festival period
Cultural Preservation: Documenting and promoting indigenous recipes and cooking methods
