The CA Wessex Section hosts this talk on 'To Svalbard and 80 degrees North' by Bob Hendicott. Members and non-members are invited to attend.
Bob has sailed since he was a child and has owned Rosinis, his Rustler 36, for 15 years. He has cruised Rosinis extensively, accumulating some 30,000NM, much of it sailed solo. In 2018 he achieved a long-held ambition of sailing to Svalbard and 80o North in the high arctic, this time with crew. The expedition started and ended in the Solent and Bob will give a brief overview of getting to the north of Norway and back again, but the main focus of his talk will be the passage from Tromso, via Bjørnøya, to Svalbard; exploring the fjords and glaciers of the west coast of Spitzbergen; indulging in the rich history and wildlife of the region, and the return passage to Tromsø
