About this Event
Métis people are deeply connected to the land, water and wildlife within our homeland. The environment is a significant part of our culture and way of being. It is foundational to who we are now and who we aim to be for generations to come. This is why the Métis Nation–Saskatchewan is bringing together the voices of Métis citizens to ensure we work together to create strategies to deal with the extreme weather events and environmental issues that are affecting our communities. Collectively, we can take ownership of our climate future through action that is grounded in our rights, knowledge systems and self-determination. In the face of adversity, our roots grow up.
This complimentary two-day conference will focus on gathering diverse perspectives and input on priorities related to climate action, emergency management and building Métis resiliency, environmental monitoring and stewardship, and preserving our traditional connection to the land. The format will include keynote, expert panel, workshops and break-out sessions to engage participants in collaborative group discussions.
We are seeking input from Métis Elders, community leaders, youth, traditional land users, people with lived experience and expertise (i.e., researchers, land managers, first responders), and 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals.
