Wes Corbett & Simon Chrisman:Since meeting over 15 years ago, Wes Corbett and Simon Chrisman, virtuosos on banjo and hammered dulcimer respectively, have toured the world with some of the great musicians of our time. Their duo performances spotlight not only their world-class musicality but also their deep personal connection.
Though the number of musically omnivorous bluegrass musicians are on the rise, few have the staggeringly broad musical base of banjo player, composer, and producer Wes Corbett. As the current banjo player for Newgrass legend Sam Bush Wes has established himself as one of the banjo greats, both as a technician and unique creative voice. Wes has shared the stage with many influential musicians including Bela Fleck, Chris Thile, Emmylou Harris, Molly Tuttle, Dierks Bentley, Jerry Douglas, and many more.
Hammer dulcimer virtuoso Simon Chrisman brings an unusual style to an instrument that has previously been thought to have limited range and technique… his inventive virtuosic touch and sophisticated rhythmic sensibilities are redefining the instrument and earning the attention of musicians from all over the world. He tours with Kittel and Co, the Bee Eaters, Wes Corbett, and Nic Gareiss, and has performed with Darol Anger, Bruce Molsky, Mike Marshall, Laurie Lewis, Seamus Egan, and Sean Watkins.
Sprig of That:
Sprig of That is a tabla-driven string ensemble playing a hearty Midwest-raised and globally-inspired acoustic stew. In February 2023, they released bloom, their full-length, all-original debut album, produced by Wes Corbett (Sam Bush Band, Joy K*ll Sorrow) and engineered/mixed by Dave Sinko (Punch Brothers, Béla Fleck, Edgar Meyer) recorded at Nashville’s legendary Sound Emporium studios.
Formed in Minneapolis, MN in 2018, the group has spent the last five years making a name for themselves across the country: as official showcase artists at Folk Alliance International, playing festivals like Pickathon, and Blue Ox, and collaborating with organizations like Carnegie Hall, Minnesota Public Radio, and the Mile of Music Music Education Team to give educational workshops across the country. In 2021, they released “Eight Threads,” a cross-genre collaboration comprising 8 compositions written for the trio by eight very different Twin Cities-based music makers that was accompanied by an eight-episode self-produced podcast.
In addition to bloom and Eight Threads, they have also released two EPs of original compositions and arrangements: Sprig of That in 2019 and Untold in 2020. They are working on their next full-length album with producer Jayme Stone, to be released in late 2025.
