About this Event

Join us to support Jen's Trek for Coppafeel!

This July, Jen Davis will embark on a challenging trek across Iceland to raise funds and awareness for Coppafeel, a breast cancer charity dedicated to early detection and saving lives. This mission is deeply personal to Jen, who was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer in 2021. During her treatment, walking and spending time outdoors became her sanctuary, helping her cope with side effects and find strength. In solidarity with Jen's journey, we’re hosting the next Luton Wellness Walk to raise funds for this vital cause. Every contribution counts! Donate here: https://shorturl.at/rWu0g

About the Route

Our walk is scheduled to commence at 9 am and is expected to last between 3 to 3.5 hours. This captivating 7-mile trail will guide you from the serene surroundings of Keech Hospice Care to the picturesque Sharpenhoe Clappers. Along this scenic journey, you will traverse open fields, discover hidden routes, meander through ancient woodlands, and walk along steep slopes, all while being treated to breathtaking views of the Chiltern landscape.

You walk at your own pace with the support from our team of experienced walkers and hikers. There will also be someone from the team at the back of the group ensuring those walking at a slower pace are supported.

Meeting Point:

Visitors car park at Keech Hospice Care, Great Bramingham Ln, Luton LU3 3NT

The route may change if there is adverse weather conditions.

About the Initiative:

Wellness Walk Luton is an initiative to engage those from the Luton community, especially those from South Asian backgrounds, to improve their mental and physical well-being through exploring and connecting with the countryside around the town.

Spending time walking in nature is something that really helps to boost our mental and physical wellbeing. There is a strong relationship between feeling good, being healthy, and enjoying the splendour and beauty in nature. Walking with others also creates an opportunity to talk, share and hopefully develop new friendships as you stroll through the countryside.

What to Wear:

During the winter months the weather can be very cold, wet and windy. It’s really important you wear appropriate footwear and clothes. The trails will likely be muddy and wet during this time of year so walking boots ideally waterproof will lead to a more enjoyable experience in bad weather.

Bring a good windproof coat. If the weather is bad, you will almost certainly get wet and you will need a coat that keeps the wind off, as the combination of the wind and being wet is what leads to you getting cold.

Bring a good pair of gloves and a hat to keep you warm. Wearing ideally walking socks or two pairs of socks can help reduce the chance of blisters. Please avoid wearing cotton or denim especially if the weather is wet.

Food & Drink:

It is important that you make sure that you bring adequate provisions with you. Eating the right sorts of foods will keep your energy up whilst you are exercising, whereas drinking enough fluid will help to keep you hydrated whilst you are walking.

Snacks that contain carbohydrates are vital for giving energy. Eating carbohydrate rich foods will allow you to maintain a good pace throughout the day and can help to prevent you from getting exhausted.

Still water is the best option for rehydration when you are out on a walk. Fizzy drinks are not recommended as they offer poor rehydration and the gas can cause bloating and cramps. Fruit juices can lead to sugar spikes and are not as rehydrating as water. Isotonic drinks and sports drinks can help to replenish vitamins and minerals, but may not hydrate as well as still water.

Medical advice:

If you have any concerns about your health in relation to taking part you should consult a GP.

We will follow the Government regulations and guidance on Covid-19. Please do not attend if you have any Covid-19 symptoms or have recently tested positive.
