February is American Heart Month which is dedicated to raising awareness about the leading cause of death in the United States, heart disease. March is National Nutrition Month. Our panel of health and wellness professionals have joined together to share their insights and combined decades of experience in fitness, mindfulness, nutrition, and behavioral interventions by addressing the root causes of health issues and promoting healthy lifestyle choices.
Guest Speaker 1:
Stephanie Gaines-Bryant has been a familiar voice in the DMV for 30 years. She recently retired from her position as news anchor/reporter for WTOP Radio. Stephanie is the owner and operator of Radio Yogi Health & Fitness. She teaches Hatha yoga as well as specialty classes that include oncology yoga and chair yoga. Stephanie is Founder and President of Sisters4Fitness, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping African American women stay healthy through fitness and nutrition. Stephanie has partnered for several years with iMind Health to offer quarterly mindfulness training sessions to first responders (police, fire, corrections officers) in Prince George’s County. Stephanie has a B.A. in Mass Media Arts from Hampton Institute (University) and a Master of Liberal Arts degree from Johns Hopkins University. Stephanie is a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. (Delta Zeta Zeta Chapter.
Guest Speaker 2:
Wallace Merriman is a dedicated Health and Fitness Coach who specializes in weight loss for women. With over 25 years of experience, he draws from his background as a former U.S. Army Master Fitness Trainer and a trainer for special agents in federal law enforcement. His expertise is further enriched by his knowledge of nutrition. He owns “You Be Fit” Health and Wellness in Bowie, Maryland, where he offers one-on-one personal training, online coaching, and engaging health and wellness workshops. Wallace also shares his passion for fitness as an adjunct professor at Prince George’s Community College. Married to his wonderful wife for over 30 years and a proud father of two, Wallace is committed to living life to the fullest.
Guest Speaker 3:
Charles Cherry is a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and owner of Bellicose Martial Arts. Charles is a retired federal law enforcement officer and continues to provide instruction to law enforcement on use of force, defensive tactics, firearms, tactical medicine, and active shooter response as an adjunct instructor at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Maryland. Charles holds black belts in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo, and Kickboxing. He has a master’s degree in business management from Amberton University and a master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis from the University of West Florida. Charles is the author of "Bully Proofing Your Child". He was inducted in the Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 2024.
