Well Wild Afternoons

Our 'Well Wild' sessions are back this summer, this time at the beautiful Heartwood, deep in Frylands Wood, Selsdon.

Come and bring your Little Acorns (age 4+) for an afternoon of free flow fun with us, and bring yourself to a beautiful outdoor yoga class while they play!​ We'll come back together at the end for some tea and toast by the fire.

Our free-flow forest school inspired sessions will take place in the The Grove at a short but discreet distance from the yoga, with treasure hunting, making, digging, sensory play and storytelling, rounded off with a campfire and toast. The yoga session will happen in The Glade, just a footpath away, so you'll probably hear your precious ones as you practice, and they can come and find you if they need to.

​Here's all the information you need to know...

• Please park in the Frylands Wood car park and make your way up the track opposite the car park entrance, following the purple ribbons. Please allow 20 minutes to walk up to the site with little legs.

• If you need help to find us, just ask at reception and they will signpost you and offer you a map.

• On arrival you'll be asked to sign our form which means that you will be agreeing to take full responsibility for the safety and behaviour of your child / children / wards while they are playing with us. We would ask that you help us by taking on board any safety guidance that we do give (especially around the fire) and support the children to make good choices about their behaviour.

• Please try and arrive a promptly as you can. I know how difficult this can be with one, let alone multiple numbers of children, but if you arrive late you'll miss out on the warm up for the start of the yoga class, and could risk injury.

• Please all wear old clothes that you don't mind getting damp and dirty - this includes the yoga! If you have a yoga mat please bring one but bear in mind it might get grubby on the grass. We have a few we can lend, but you'll need to email us at [email protected] to book one in advance.

• If it rains heavily we will cancel the yoga but we will offer a yoga nidra under shelter and a walking meditation instead. The woodland activity will continue rain or shine, under our big tarp which we'll rig up so that we have somewhere to shelter if need be. The only time we'll cancel everything is in the event of a storm, and we'll let you know as early as we can if that happens.

• The yoga is suitable for all abilities.

• There are basic toilets nearby, or you are welcome to a wild wee in woods if needed.

• If you or your child cannot eat toast and jam, or marshmallows and digestive biscuits for any reason, please could you bring an alternative campfire snack so you don't feel left out as the others tuck in.

• Just to let you know that some of our volunteer staff are young people who have grown up in the care of us at Go Wild. Some may have mild learning difficulties or disabilities which may not be immediately apparent. We try to give all our young people the opportunity to support us in the real world by sharing their skills and knowledge with the younger ones. This is an experience that they really value and is our chance to give them a taste of working life outside school and college, and an opportunity to engage with adults and children in a professional but friendly and supportive working environment. Those who are old enough hold DBS checks, and we ensure that they are supported by an adult worker at all times. We only allow young people that we know well, and who we think will cope to support these sessions. We hope you enjoy their enthusiasm and spending time with them as much as we do!

Our yoga facilitator Suzy is the founder of Go Wild With Us UK, and in 2018 started her yoga training after a lifetime's connection with yoga and over 15 years of dedicated personal practice - mainly in the Iyengar tradition with Bernadette Corrigan - and living a yogic lifestyle. She became qualified in early 2019 via a 200 hour Yoga Alliance certified course with the wonderful 'Live Love Yoga'.

Like a great tree, Suzy's teaching style is deeply influenced by the roots of Hatha yoga, and the eight limbs of Raja yoga. Her classes have a strong focus on alignment and gentle holds of asanas, however she also loves to gently free flow and experiment with ways of connecting the body and mind with the breath. You will find a light heartedness in her teaching style and also often find the quiet influences of Yoga Nidra in the classes.

A lifelong advocate of working in nature to reconnect people of all ages with their natural environment, she is glad to be able to offer folk support in reconnecting with body and mind through yoga. Although most of her regular classes take place indoors at various locations in Croydon, the yoga will always be rooted in the ancient rhythms of nature, with themes emerging which reflect the seasons, and the context in which we live our lives.

These classes are gentle yet robust, nurturing and gently working to bring body and mind into union and balance. Suitable for anyone at any stage on the path.
