About this Event
Join No Lost Generation GWU in an evening of dinner, music and an opportunity to connect with members of a variety of student organizations on campus, in celebration of the growth of our Welcoming Campus Initiative. The potluck will take place on February 21, 2022 at 6:00-8:30 pm at The Continental Ballroom located on the third floor of the University Student Center.
About our initiative: According to the UN Refugee Agency, only three percent of the 26 million refugees globally have access to higher education, compared to the 37 percent of all people. For refugees, access to education would mean brighter futures, but also immediate protections. If US-based higher education institutions accepted refugee students living outside the US and brought them into the country on student visas, those refugees could then apply for asylum from within the country during their time of study – a completely legal and life changing pathway entitled by the UN as a "Complementary Pathway" to resettlement.
We believe that GW has a unique opportunity to lead the country in offering support to refugees from within our community. Our proposal outlines the social, academic, and financial support we could offer to refugee students at GW in a holistic approach to refugee sponsorship, including the creation of a new scholarship.
