Conversation & Soup - 24 October 2024
Thursday 24th October 2024
Welcome to Speaking & Listening – We, the People: How are we doing (with) democracy?
Host: Oliver Maxwell / Bybi
Guide: Eva von Falkenstein
With this conversation, we are inviting us all to dive into how we feel about the state of our democracy/ies.
As our society/ies face local, regional and global challenges, can we trust that our States’ governing systems have the capacity to respond? To what extent do we feel we are empowered citizens with the ability to co-create? Where do we notice cracks and divides, that democratic systems seem to have difficulty responding to? Where is democracy working out for us, and are we maybe taking certain aspects for granted? Or is there a sense that democracy, too, is in crisis? And what does all that mean for us, the People - both as individual beings as well as a collective body?
This conversation is for everyone interested in zooming deeper into our here and now, regardless of where you feel you are from or belong. As we witness each other sharing from our own personal experience, emotions are welcome and each voice is equally valid.
Please note that this is NOT a political debate or argumentative discussion, nor is it about persuading anyone of anything in any other way.
**********************************************
Speaking & Listening is a highly inclusive practice which allows us to share our individual experiences around a topic that we may respond to in very different ways. Together, we move beyond our typical habits of discussion and debate, exploring the potential possibilities of attuned authentic exchange. How can we deepen our collective sense of what it is like to be part of the human family in these times?
This is one of the first formats we chose to try out "in the flesh", after having learned the core process in online citizen conversations, guided by other organizations, e.g. the international Pocket Project and German Mehr Demokratie. The structure is clear and simple, which is part of its charm. We love to combine it with a creative activity, rounding off our experience with a playful note.
